  1. 2003

    It all begins with “Blue” Bishop, a large-breed Airedale battling cancer, whose dedicated family is inspired to develop a healthy, commercially available pet food. After consulting with veterinarians and expert animal nutritionists, Blue Buffalo® is born.
  2. 2004

    The Bishop family starts the Blue Buffalo Foundation for Cancer Research and the Pet Cancer Awareness Program.
  3. 2005

    BBFCR gives its first grant to the Animal Cancer Foundation where it’s used by the Veterinary Cooperative Oncology Group to share research results between universities, clinics and veterinary oncologists.
  4. 2007

    BBFCR awards Ohio State and North Carolina State universities grants for pet cancer research.
  5. 2008

    BBFCR helps fund seven research studies at six universities, including the Broad Institute at M.I.T. and Cornell University.
  6. 2009

    BBFCR partners with the Petco Foundation to help fight pet cancer.

    BBFCR and the Petco Foundation raise $800,000 during the first official Pet Cancer Awareness Month in May.

    BBFCR awards eight research study grants to different universities including Oklahoma State University and University of California, Davis.

    BBFCR and the Petco Foundation raise $900,000 during Pet Cancer Awareness Month in May.
  4. 2011

    BBFCR awards grants to 11 research studies at eight universities including Colorado State University and the University of Tennessee.

    BBFCR and the Petco Foundation raise $1,500,000 during Pet Cancer Awareness Month in May.

    Petco Foundation and BBFCR become platinum partners for the Morris Animal Foundation’s National Canine Health Initiative.

    BBFCR awards grants to three organizations and universities focused on pet cancer research including the Morris Animal Foundation and North Carolina State University.

    BBFCR sponsors Riedel & Cody Fund’s 12 Million Dog March in Los Angeles, CA in August.

    BBFCR awards grants to nine organizations and universities focused on pet cancer research including Ohio State University and the Care Foundation Inc.

    BBFCR awards grants to seven organizations helping families pay for pet cancer treatments, including Emma’s Foundation for Canine Cancer.

    BBFCR pledges $500,000 in partnership with the Morris Animal Foundation’s Osteosarcoma Project.
  6. 2014

    BBFCR awards grants to six organizations and universities focused on pet cancer research including Oregon State University and the National Canine Cancer Foundation.

    BBFCR awards grants to 10 organizations giving families financial support for pet cancer treatments, including the Mosby Foundation and the Foundation for Animal Care and Education.

    TailsSpin®, a chain of three pet food and accessories stores in the Savannah, Georgia area, raises $27,000 for the BBFCR at their 2nd Annual Woof! Woof! 5K Run/Walk Over Pet Cancer in November.

    First-ever Pet Cancer Awareness TV commercial airs, taking awareness and education to the next level.

    BBFCR and the Petco Foundation raise a record-breaking $2,400,000 during Pet Cancer Awareness Month in May.

    Halo Finalist: Our 2014 Pet Cancer Awareness campaign was named a finalist in Cause Marketing Forum Halo Awards in the Best Environmental or Animal Campaign category.
