Mah-Mah's Story

Mah-Mah was a feral cat, or at least a homeless cat. In 2000, She wandered up to our rural home with two kittens in tow. By the time she'd had a second litter and weaned them, she finally trusted us enough to get into a carrier to be spayed. From that moment on, she was an indoor cat, and she became more and more loving as time went on.

One day in 2007, my husband was petting Mah-Mah and felt a lump on her chest. The vet diagnosed mammary cancer and removed the lump. A scant few months later, we felt another lump, and she had another surgery. We both knew her chances were slim but it was a real shock when, just as she was finally recovering from the second surgery, she started having trouble breathing. It turns out the cancer had spread into her lungs. We had no choice then but to release her from her pain. Coming on the heels of my father's death from cancer made losing Mah-Mah even more painful. We must find a cure.
